Epic Safari Adventure: Mara Triangle with Hylton Langley Safaris

Posted on Thu August 8, 2024.

Embark on a journey with us to the heart of Kenya's Mara Triangle, where the magic of the African wilderness comes to life! In the first part of our four-part blog series on our recently hosted East African Safari, we had the pleasure of hosting Dennis & Sherri Wright on a breathtaking adventure, accompanied by none other than Margaux and Hylton Langley.

Arrival in Nairobi

Our adventure began in Nairobi, where the group spent a relaxing night, soaking in the vibrant city vibes before setting off on their safari escapade.

The next morning, we took a short flight to Kichwa Tembo, where our exceptional guide, Robert, greeted us warmly. From there, we headed to the luxurious Angama Mara lodge, our home for the next three nights.

Perched high above the rolling plains, Angama Mara offers unparalleled views of the Maasai Mara. The lodge’s design is inspired by the romance of "Out of Africa," with tented suites that blend seamlessly into the landscape, offering floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the breathtaking panoramas below. Whether you’re lounging on your deck or enjoying a delicious meal, the vistas of the savannah stretching out endlessly before you are truly mesmerizing.

Exceptional Safari Experiences

With Robert's expertise, we experienced safari outings that were nothing short of extraordinary. Here are some of the unforgettable highlights:

Lion Drama:

We witnessed a territorial male lion chasing two lionesses who had ventured into his territory. His powerful roars echoed across the plains as he pursued the fleeing females, providing a thrilling and raw display of nature's drama.

Newborn Giraffe:

A magical moment unfolded as we came across a newborn Maasai giraffe calf, only a couple of hours old. It wobbled on its legs, initially mistaking our vehicle for its mother. Thankfully, the real mom arrived soon after, and together, they slowly moved into the thickets.

Mara River Crossing:

The ultimate highlight of our safari was witnessing our first Mara River crossing. Robert expertly positioned our vehicle, giving us a front-row seat to a small herd of wildebeest and zebra bravely crossing the raging river. Despite the presence of hippos and crocodiles, this herd managed to pass through unscathed, as the satiated crocodiles showed no interest in them.

Kenyan Hospitality

What truly stood out during our stay was the warm Kenyan hospitality. Lodge manager George and our butler Jackton went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and delight. They hosted us in the Shamba garden for a delightful lunch, arranged a special Maasai dance during sunset, and organized a sundowner drinks stop at the iconic "Out of Africa" filming location.

Dennis and Sherri even had the unique opportunity to go on a run with a Kenyan, weaving through fields dotted with zebras and giraffes. Meanwhile, Hylton and I enjoyed birding with a Maasai naturalist, adding new lifers like the African Blue Flycatcher and Schalow's Turaco to our bird-watching list.

We can’t recommend Angama Mara enough. The combination of breathtaking landscapes, exceptional wildlife sightings, and heartfelt hospitality makes it an unmissable destination.

Stay tuned for our next blog post as we continue our Migration Madness Expedition across East Africa. There are more adventures and unforgettable moments on the horizon!
